Litchfield Council continuously improves Litchfield’s roads for the municipality’s benefit and sealing roads, which may require a special rate levy, is part of this activity.
Litchfield Council’s Municipal Plan 2025-2026 will include special rates under section 238 of the Local Government Act 2019 (the Act):
- In the form of a road seal levy to defray the cost and expense of Council sealing a section of road being Meade Road in Darwin River, as shown on the plan below. These works have commenced in 2024.
- The total amount that is proposed to be raised by the special rate is $47,580.
- The proposed special rate will be a fixed amount of $5,947.50 imposed on each allotment within that part of the council area adjoining the road as sealed and as marked on the plan referred to in paragraph (a) above and being the allotments more particularly described below. It is proposed that the special rate will be payable on or before 30 June 2027.
- A person may make submissions to the Council about the proposed special rate before 29 October 2024. All submissions will be presented to the Council at the next meeting following this date to consider the imposition of the special rate.
- A person can obtain further information about the proposed special rates from the Council.
