About the project
The Northern Territory Government is undertaking a planning study for future duplication of a 10 kilometre section of the Arnhem Highway from the Stuart Highway intersection to Kostka Road in Humpty Doo.
The Arnhem Highway is a major arterial road that connects the Darwin region to Jabiru and Kakadu National Park.
There are several undeveloped or unmaintained roads in Humpty Doo, some of which are subject to flooding, and cross-intersections with reported safety concerns.
The key objectives of the planning study are to:
- provide safe access to enable land developments
- provide an efficient route to improve freight productivity
- provide a safe and attractive route to support tourism and rural residential development manage future transport needs.
The concept design will consider options for a new intersection on the Arnhem Highway to connect areas north of Humpty Doo via a new north-south connector.
This north-south connector is detailed within the Humpty Doo Area Plan but its location will be reviewed as part of this planning study process.
