Thorak Cemetery has sections designed to accommodate a variety of the local community’s religious or non-religious memorial needs.

Thorak Regional Cemetery staff will help you select the most suitable interment site and memorial to suit your individual cemetery pre-planning needs.

Section A and G

Section A and G is a non-denominational lawn cemetery.

A formal lawn area of grass covered graves with tablet style markers on a concrete base.

This section permits two burials per single plot. Memorials in this section are restricted to flat or tablet style plaques, or pillow markers placed on a beam or concrete base.

Section B

Section B is a non-denominational lawn area with two separate sections; one is adjacent to Section A and the other continues across the middle road.

This section permits two burials per single plot. Memorials in this section can be a plaque or a headstone limited to a maximum size of 700mm in height. The memorial is placed on a concrete beam.

Sections C, D and E

Sections C, D and E are non-denominational sections bordering on the south side of the cemetery.

This section permits two burials per single plot. Memorials in this section can be headstones, tombstones or monuments limited to 2m in height and are often constructed to cover the whole grave. Designs over 1.5m will require engineering certificates.

Muslim Section - Flat marker

An open lawn area providing unbroken views of the landscape.

Memorials in this section are restricted to flat or tablet style plaques only and do not protrude over the grave.

Muslim Section - Monument

Memorials in this section can be headstones, tombstones or monuments limited to 2m in height and are often constructed to cover the whole grave. Designs over 1.5m will require engineering diagrams.

Baha'i Section

An open lawn area.

Memorials in this section are restricted to flat or tablet style plaques only, set on a concrete base.

Orthodox Section

This section is set aside for the Greek Orthodox community.

Memorials in this section can be headstones, tombstones or monuments limited to 2m in height. Designs over 1.5m will require engineering certificates.

Jewish Section

This section is set aside for the Jewish community.

A formal lawn area of grass covered graves with a hedge on 3 sides allowing entry on the fourth side.

Memorials in this section can be a plaque or a headstone limited to a maximum size of 700mm in height. The memorial is placed on a concrete beam. It is preferred under the Jewish faith that no flowers or ornaments are left in this area.

Garden of Angels

This special area is set aside as the children's section in the cemetery and comprises of two sections.

Section A - Accommodates caskets up to 110cm long by 45cm wide.

Memorials in this section are restricted to flat granite or bronze plaques, attached to a concrete beam.

Section B - Accommodates caskets up to 110cm long by 45cm wide.Memorials in this section can be a plaque or a headstone limited to a maximum size of 700mm in height. The memorial is placed on a concrete beam.

This section also provides a quiet place to sit and contemplate in a shaded gazebo with a calming water feature.

Memorial Palm Garden

The Memorial Palm Garden is set aside for the interment of cremated remains or memorials.

Set among exotic plantings and soaring palms, this area features engraved bronze plaques (limited size) in a garden setting.

Niche Walls

The two Niche Walls are located inside the Memorial Palm Garden.

They provide an above ground wall for cremated remains of limited capacity. Bronze plaques are available to seal the interment space.

Courtyard of Tranquility

The Courtyard of Tranquility is an enclosed courtyard with a perimeter landscaped garden.

Currently there are two interment options available. One section allows for single interments and a bronze plaque. Another section will permit two interments, along with a small upright headstone up to 300mm in height.

A choice of family memorial trees, allowing up to 20 ash memorials to be placed around its curbed edges or memorial trees which allow four memorials on plinths around the tree.

Interments (Burials)

Thorak can accommodate two caskets or up to six interments of cremated remains. For those who choose two caskets in a single plot, the first casket must be dug to extra depth, so the decision to use a single plot for two caskets must be decided in advance.

Additional burials may be available with the approval of Thorak Regional Cemetery Management.
