Litchfield Council held its 8th Land Auction on Wednesday 4th December, the land auctions are held to recoup unpaid rates and charges on vacant plots of land. The first Council land auction was held back in March 2010 and reaped more than $3.5 million from the sale of 11 blocks.
Southport was the highlight for Councils recent auction, with 10 blocks being offered. All ten blocks of land were sold reaching one million. This auction recovered $336,630 from outstanding rates and charges and the remainder revenue will be held with the public trustees, whom will continue to search for the land owners.
This $336.630 will be used as Council reserves to fund activities and services in the Municipality.
