McMinns Lagoon is one of the Northern Territory sites taking part in the federal government's Green Army Program. People aged between 17 and 24 are eligible to apply for the program.

The Green Army Program works to enhance the environmental value of the Lagoon, protect endangered species and ecological communities, and increase community engagement.

Participants can gain training and practical experience in areas such as weed control, revegetation, rubbish removal, site management, survey work, and fencing. The program also provides participants with the opportunity to build networks and gain nationally recognised training.

Participants also receive a training allowance.
