Litchfield Council hosted the NT Planning Commission today at Council Chambers, where following an information sharing discussion with Council staff, Planning Commission chairman Gary Nairn spoke with the media about the process of developing the new land use plan, and consultation with the community.

Council will be participating in the development of the Litchfield Sub Regional Land Use Plan, and encourages members of the community to express themselves during the process. “This is an opportunity for the Litchfield community to provide input on future planning in their area. The importance of participation in an exercise like this cannot be underestimated,” Acting Chief Executive Officer Ben Dornier said.

The subregional land use plan will focus on managing growth in Litchfield and provide detailed planning around identified rural activity centres in Berry Springs, Coolalinga/Freds Pass, Howard Springs, Humpty Doo and the Pine Forest, while preserving the rural lifestyle enjoyed by residents.

The consultation paper discusses land to support commercial and community uses and a variety of residential options in rural activity centres, rural lifestyle areas, urban areas and adjacent areas.

The Acting Chief Executive Officer, Ben Dornier said “Litchfield Council believes appropriate town planning can resolve many of the concerns residents have regarding development. Council will work with the NT Planning Commission to ensure this update of the 2002 Litchfield Land Use Plan reflects the needs and lifestyle of residents.”
