The Department of Land Planning and the Environment are releasing Sections 222 and 223 Hundred of Colton parcels of land for sale. The two 130Ha parcels are zoned for horticulture. A road reserve exists between the two parcels which connects Mocatto Road with Byers Road. The road reserve is cleared for fire management but no road exists. The current road reserve connects directly with the intersection of Mocatto Road and Acacia Hills Road and if the road was constructed it would create a cross road. Cross road connection is not recommended by Australian Standards and should be avoided wherever possible. The Department of Land Planning and the Environment was therefore requested to realign the road reserve connection away from Mocatto Road. An alignment was selected to the east of Mocatto Road as shown on the this drawing. An alternative alignment to the west side of Mocatto Road was not acceptable as it reduces potential access to the sub artesian aquifer. The Department of Land Planning and the Environment will provide a fire break and access along the new road reserve alignment. The realignment of the road reserve requires opening a new road reserve and closing part of the existing road reserve in accordance with the Local Government Act, section 185, at nil cost to Council. This application is open for public comment until 20 April 2016. Comments can be made to Council by emailing council@litchfield.nt.gov.au or calling 08 8983 0600.
