In keeping with our 2016-17 Municipal Plan, Litchfield Council has commenced the development of our ten-year waste management strategy.

This strategy will review our existing waste management practices around the collection, recycling, transport and disposal of solid wastes generated within the council area, and it will set out how over the next ten years Council manages solid waste in an efficient and sustainable way that meets the needs of the community.

Council recently engaged waste management consultant Impact Environmental Consulting Pty Ltd to guide Council through the strategy development.

Council also wants community input into the strategy and we have appointed eight community representatives following our call last month for expressions of interest, who together with Mayor Bredhauer and selected Council staff, will form Council’s Community Reference Group.

The group will be meeting with the consultant on Monday 5 December 2016 and then several times more across the early part of 2017.

The consultant will present options for consideration by Council approximately by March 2017, with a view to Council finalising the strategy by June 2017.

Through this process, Council wants your feedback and suggestions about waste management and in particular, any suggestions you might have for improving community recycling rates and ideas on how to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill.
