Last night 11 community organisations benefited up to $5000 each from the recycling efforts of Litchfield residents at the 2018 round of the Litchfield Council Annual Community Grants Awards Night.
A total of almost $33,000, collected from old car batteries and drink cans deposited at the Waste Transfer Stations was made available for community organisations through an application process to fund events or projects that provide opportunities to connect and enrich life in local communities.
Litchfield Council Mayor Maree Bredhauer said the second year of our Community Grants Scheme received 20 strong applications with great events and initiatives including holiday activities for children, tennis programs, a “horse of the year” competition and upgrading water pumps for the Acacia Hills Fire Brigade, and much more.
“This is such a positive initiative for the community and for organisations to contribute to making Litchfield the best place to live in the Top End through funding for events and projects.” the Mayor said.
Council’s annual community grants are one component of Council’s Community Grants Scheme which contributed a total $141,500 through grants and partnership and support programs in the 2017/18 financial year.
As part of the process all applications are provided with feedback from Council regarding their applications and support for applying again in 2019.
