With nominations for the August 2021 Northern Territory Local Government Elections opening on 16 July, Litchfield Council were proud to join the Local Government Association of the Northern Territory (LGANT) and the Northern Territory Electoral Commission (NTEC) to co-host an Information Session.

The 20 July session provided information on eligibility, how to nominate, the roles and responsibilities of an Elected Member, campaigning and much more.

Councils are obligated under legislation to conduct reviews of the electoral representation in their municipalities, Litchfield completed such a review in 2020 and Ministerial approval granted a move to three wards (North, Central and South) and an increase from five to seven elected members.

“With this exciting increase to elected member numbers, Litchfield residents will be more proportionately represented” CEO Mr Daniel Fletcher says, “and with Council members receiving full training and professional development opportunities there really is no better time to use your voice to represent your community as their elected member”.

“Council is a constant buzz of activity, working to meet obligations and community expectations.  The energy and close contact with the community that Local Government affords its representatives is very rewarding” Mr Fletcher adds.

Litchfield’s incumbent elected members can nominate to contest for re-election to continue representing the community.  Information on how to nominate is available on the NTEC website.
