Council recently held the first ‘Trash for Cash’ Community Grants program awards evening to announce the successful first round winners.
The scheme is a new initiative in Litchfield that sees recycling giving back to the community through using funds raised from recycling products such as old car batteries and drink cans that the community deposit at the transfer stations and distributing the proceeds back to the community.
This year the Council allocated $22,500 to nine of the sixteen applicants with each winner receiving between $340 to $5000.
Congratulations go to Berry Springs Recreation Reserve for Territory Day and Berry Springs Car Show events- $5000; Berry Springs School, ‘Recycling Warriors’- $3000; Animal Rescue Group for project ‘cat desexing vouchers’ - $2500; Litchfield Horse and Pony Club for new mower - $3400; Litchfield Polocrosse for upgrades to the oval at Livingstone Reserve - $2557; Southern Districts Cricket Club for purchase of First Aid equipment and gazebos - $2470; Wildcare for the project ‘Bunt your Barbed Wire’ - $2724; Howard Springs Primary School for ‘Writers Day’ - $500 and $349 to Humpty Doo Scouts for the purchase of a personal locator beacon.
The next round on the Annual Community Grants will open early in 2018.
Litchfield Council is committed continuing to improve the recycling and resource recovery efforts and to work with the community to generate less waste and manage wisely and efficiently the waste produced.
