Hello Everyone,
I attended the Anzac dawn ceremony at the Humpty Doo golf course. It was a very good ceremony with breakfast and I think there would have to have been 200 people there. From there I then moved to the Humpty Doo Village Green ceremony, there was another very good ceremony with about 300 people there with a lot of kids participating. I do thank very much the Armed Forces personnel that did turn up; they did a very professional job. I would like to see more Armed Forces in attendance next year, with Robertson Barracks as part of the Litchfield Municipality it would be nice to see 2 platoons of uniformed personnel 1 personnel carrier and one ambulance, I personally think the kids would love it and they may even understand more about it as well.
Green Waste
Thank you for your response to my last message, the green waste issue seems to be a hot topic with nearly everyone suggesting we use our blocks of land to collect our green waste creating our own mulch.
Waste Conference
I attended a waste conference in Coffs Harbour last week; I and 20 others boarded a bus and drove from Brisbane to Coffs Harbour stopping at Lismore looking at sites and learning about how other councils use and benefit from their waste. The two day conference after in Coffs Harbour was very informative and I am hoping to share some of that information with you in the near future.
Industrial Land
Thank you for your feedback regarding the Industrial Land email from last week. I would also like to thank Gerry Wood, MP for Nelson for his support on Councils move to discuss this matter with the NT government. For a long time now there has not been an industrial land released in Humpty Doo and the rural area. This is something that I was aware of years ago, there should have been land released eight years ago, so I am of the opinion, and I need your support, to try and make this happen. I am waiting for a response from Peter Chandler, Minister for Lands to confirm a meeting regarding this and I will inform you of the date, place and time.
Ministers
I have been showing Ministers around the Municipality. Tina McFarland, candidate for Lingiari, opposition to Warren Snowden's drove with me to see the bridges that the Municipality requires and the childcare centre at Berry springs as well as Alison Anderson, Minister for Local Government and Housing. I also discussed with Ms Anderson that Berry Springs Nature Park is the only considered safe swimming hole in the area and is closed most of the time. The high levels of E Coli need to be addressed, I said to her that either open or close it, but what is happening is when it is closed you are pushing the people out into more dangerous swimming environments where they could be taken by crocs.
NT Budget
Budget work is not easy; it is a challenge to allocate sufficient funds to fulfil all needs. Hopefully the future will see Litchfield included more in the NT budget, with our rapid growth, I see Litchfield amongst the fastest developing areas of the Northern Territory.
May Activities
As the dry season gets into full swing the events come out. Freds Pass Recreation Reserve is bursting with life, great to see young and old getting involved with the huge amount of activities the reserve has to offer. Taminmin Community Library May's book launch is Nick Bland's, The Wrong Book and on Thursday 23rd May is the Biggest Morning Tea, contact the Library for more details 8983 7003. Don't forget the Markets held every Saturday at Coolalinga and on the last Sunday of the Month, 26th May at Berry Springs. The Council Micro-Chipping Day will be held on 29th May.
WANTED
Berry Springs and Livingstone have a growing number of youth, we are looking for talented people to organise sports events in the area so they don't have to travel, if you are a coach or have the ability to start something fun for the kids then please give me a call 8983 0600.
Keep smiling and have fun
