Bridges
The growth of the rural area is noticeable all around us and the need to develop infrastructure is an increasing concern for me. I feel we need six bridges in the South Ward to make access safer to our homes and money for a drainage system for Wadham Lagoon as well as better traffic flow conditions for the Howard Springs area. I recently met with Federal MP Warren Snowden and discussed some of these matters, I was hoping with a federal election this year we may stand a chance of support. He directed me back to local level and therefore I spoke with Northern Territory Minister for Transport, Adam Giles. I think this will take some time but I will keep battling for us.
Freds Pass Rural Show
I am personally disappointed with the cancellation of the Freds Pass Show, I would like to push to see if the show can get up and running again in 2014, but I need to know if this is what you, the rural community want. I have heard very little about what you want for its future, but I have heard that people think the show needs to change direction and go back to those early days when it was a, rural show. I agree, I would like to know if we should rebrand it and call ii the Litchfield Carnival to bring it back to more of a community identity, more of community representation, I will need help with idears here . However we need to know what you think, please talk to us, come to the office, call us, email or talk with your local Councillor. All our contact details are on our website.
Girraween School Area
A public developer would like to improve the area around the Girraween School, he would like your input, and what do you think you need in your local community? He has some ideas and suggested a child minding centre, a small supermarket and maybe some two storey units. Let me know and I can pass your name and number to him, as he said it is your community, what would you like to have.
Clean Up Australia Day
Sunday 3rd March is Clean Up Australia Day and I am proud to see six groups registered within the Municipality. The Litchfield Council Waste Transfer Stations will be offering their assistance to this wonderful scheme. Some local schools and groups such as the scouts and the Darwin Off-Road Cyclists Mountain Bike Club have registered areas for Clean Up Australia Day, head to their website for more details Clean Up Australia »
Green Waste
We all have it and need to get rid of it; we have three choices, put in your garden, put it in a pile down the back and leave it for one year and you'll end it with good soil or take it to the Waste Transfer Station. However the Waste Transfer Stations are receiving too much green waste and we are asking you to look at another way of helping us, maybe mulch or burn till we can get rid of the mulched up material, buy more mulch when you drop off your green waste, the sale of the green waste helps pay for the mulching.
