Welcome to 2018. I hope you have embraced the New Year with renewed vigour and positive outlook as we at Litchfield Council have done.
We have a busy year ahead with a full program of events. Starting with Australia Day celebrations, come and join us for a day of fun, lots of activities for the children, a free BBQ breakfast and welcome our new Citizens. Then onto the Queens Baton Relay event which will see our community showcased worldwide. The Fred’s Pass Rural Show is next, which has at theme this year, ‘Celebrating Rural Life’. So get involved. Remember ‘Community Effort is Essential’.
In the past few months we have reviewed the Strategic plan to ensure that we are able to position Council to respond to the growing population whilst not losing sight of the core responsibilities: roads, waste management, recreation reserves and protecting the environment that we all enjoy.
The Council also intends to involve the community in a number of new initiatives including consultation on the Waste Management Strategy which has a focus on minimising waste to landfill and improving recycling; Implementing the Community Engagement Strategy and progressing the Strategic Plan. The Humpty Doo Activity Centre planning will commence in early February, the Howard Spring Area plan is in the final stages and Coolalinga Fred’s Pass Plan is waiting NT Government decisions in relation to the traffic management around the Coolalinga shopping strip before further progress can be made. On top of these items we also intend to continue to advocate powerfully and work with government, business and community to encourage the integrated, timely and appropriate infrastructure development. Such infrastructure projects whether a road, library, aquatic centre or activity centre, an aquaculture farm or bike path will further economic growth and support continued social and community wellbeing.
