As we roll on into the end of the year and begin the Christmas preparations, celebrations, end of year assemblies, Carols by Candlelight and hope for more rain, I am reminded of what a great community we live in.

After much deliberation, the Draft Rating Policy has been endorsed by Council at the meeting last week. The council has listened to the community and has kept the fixed rate for residential properties as the basis of calculating rates. The Policy is now out for public consultation. Given the time of year and to ensure whole of community engagement continues to be robust the plan will be out for a consultation period of 8 weeks. There will be many opportunities for you to provide comment on the draft Policy, including through the ‘Your Say Litchfield’, public meetings, etc. All details including the Draft Rating Policy is on Your Say Litchfield and copies of the draft Rating Policy are also available at Council.

The Litchfield Council Annual Report was passed at a Special Council meeting recently. This report provides you with detailed information of the past 12 months activities in relation to income and expenditure, our achievements and operations. It is a factual document but easy to read for anyone interested in how Council has met the objectives set out in the Municipal Plan and Budget. The report shows you how the services of roads, refuse and reserves are incorporated in the six major roles of Council: advocacy, community engagement, funding, regulation, service delivery and partnering along with other activities that Council performs satisfy community expectations and the Local Government Act.

As always, I am keen to connect with all Litchfield residents. You can contact me via email maree.bredhauer@litchfiled.nt.gov.au or ph. 8983 0612

Thank you for your contributions to our Community in 2019, Enjoy the Christmas season, and stay safe.
