Council Customer Service

Litchfield Council is calling on residents to have their say on the Draft Municipal Plan 2026–2027 including the Long-Term Financial Plan 2026-2036, now open for public consultation.

The draft plans outline Council’s priorities, services and budget for the coming year, along with a 10-year financial roadmap to support sustainable growth across the municipality.

Mayor Rachael Wright said the plans strike a balance between delivering essential services and planning for the future.

“This year’s draft plan reflects our continued investment in roads, community facilities and recreation spaces, while maintaining a strong focus on long-term financial sustainability,”

“The unprecedented damage to our road network following a particularly harsh wet season means a significant portion of this year’s investment will be focused on road network repairs across the municipality. While Council will be actively seeking recovery funding from the Northern Territory Government, there will still be a substantial cost to Council.”

Key highlights of the draft budget include:
•    An $8.5 million capital works program
•    A 4% increase in rates and 4% increase in waste charges
•    Increased investment in road maintenance and community infrastructure
•    An increase in revenue to support service delivery.

The draft plan also includes increased funding for recreation reserves and community grants, recognising their important role in supporting local lifestyles and connections.

Council is forecasting a balanced operational position, while managing a planned deficit driven by capital investment and rising costs, including materials, contractors and insurance.

Mayor Wright encouraged residents to review the plans and provide feedback.

“Community input is an important part of our planning process. We encourage everyone to take the time to review the draft plans and share their feedback to help shape the future of Litchfield.”

Consultation will run until 5pm Monday, 25 May 2026, with opportunities to engage online, in writing and in person at the upcoming Litchfield Show on 23 and 24 May.

Residents can view the draft plans and make a submission via Council’s website.
