Litchfield Council proudly welcomed 15 new Australian citizens from eight countries at a citizenship ceremony held on Wednesday, 17 September 2026.
The ceremony coincided with Australian Citizenship Day, a national occasion recognising the importance of Australian citizenship and the shared values that unite our diverse community.
The new citizens made the Australian Citizenship Pledge, formally marking their commitment to Australia and their full participation in the Australian community.
Mayor Rachael Wright said it was a privilege to welcome the new citizens on such a significant day.
“Becoming an Australian citizen is a momentous occasion. It recognises the journey each person has taken, their contribution to our community and their commitment to Australia’s future,” Mayor Wright said.
“Litchfield is strengthened by the people who choose to make their home here. We are delighted to welcome these 15 new citizens and celebrate the diversity, experiences and sense of belonging they bring to our community.”
Australian Citizenship Day is observed annually on 17 September. The Department of Home Affairs describes it as an opportunity for all Australians to reflect on the meaning and importance of citizenship, and the role it plays in shaping Australia as a nation.
Council congratulates all 15 new citizens and warmly welcomes them as the newest members of the Australian and Litchfield communities.
