Litchfield Council has proudly welcomed 12 new Australian citizens during a special Citizenship Ceremony held on Friday, 19 June 2026.
The ceremony recognised candidates from 6 different countries (South Sudan, United Kingdom, Vietnam, Philippines, Thailand and Indonesia), marking an important milestone in their journey to becoming Australian citizens and celebrating the rich cultural diversity that strengthens the Litchfield community.
Litchfield Council Mayor Rachael Wright highlighted the significance of the occasion and the value of multiculturalism in Australia.
“This is an important milestone for our new citizens. By choosing Australia, they are helping strengthen our community and contribute to Litchfield’s vibrant and inclusive future.
“Citizenship is both a privilege and a responsibility, and we encourage our new citizens to share their cultures and traditions, enriching our community and helping to build a stronger, more connected and diverse Litchfield,” said Mayor Wright.
The ceremony was conducted in accordance with the Australian Citizenship Act, with candidates making the Australian Citizenship Pledge, formally committing to Australia’s democratic beliefs, rights and liberties and the rule of law.
The event was attended by several distinguished guests, including Luke Gosling MP, Federal Member for Solomon and Special Envoy for Defence, Andrew Mackay MLA, Member for Goyder and Palmerston City Council Mayor Athina Pascoe-Bell.
As part of becoming an Australian citizen, all recipients were presented with certificates and a native tree to plant, symbolising putting down roots in their new home.
Litchfield Council extends its congratulations to all new citizens and looks forward to their contributions to the region.
