Yes folks, it’s is on again: the 2019 Annual Community Grants Scheme is now open for applications. Grants of up to $5,000 are available to organisations and community groups for events and projects. The Scheme aims to support community activities which address local needs and strengthen community relationships. Funding for the Community Grants Scheme comes from the recycling efforts of our residents at the Waste Transfer Stations (products such as cans, bottles and car batteries). All details including application forms, yoursay.litchfield.nt.gov.au. Council is holding an information session on Tuesday, 2 April for anyone wanting assistance with the application process. Applications close Friday 12 April 2019.

Council is committed to a full review of its current Rating Policy which determines the bases of rating. To assist the review, Council has established a volunteer Community Reference Group (CRG) to work with Council, contributing ideas and providing feedback. The CRG has 11 community members representing a diverse range of demographics from across the municipality and an independent chairperson. Three meetings have been held so far and the CRG have heard from independent professionals such as The Valuer General to get an understanding of a variety of contributing factors to rating. To keep up to date on information regarding the Review and the CRG meetings, you can visit yoursay.litchfield.nt.gov.au.

Congratulations to all who participated and assisted with the first ever Litchfield Women in Art Exhibition. The event was a huge success with 43 entries from 29 artists. Up and coming star painter, Beth Graham came out winner of the Viewer’s Choice Award with her sunset piece, tiled A Natural Balance. This event is the first step in demonstrating the need for community space that will showcase not only our local artists but a space joined with a library and a range of other community and business facilities servicing our diverse community.

As usual I am keen to connect with all Litchfield residents. You can contact me via email maree.bredhauer@litchfield.nt.gov.au or ph. 89 830612.

Next Council meeting is Wednesday 20 March, at 6.30pm at the Council Chambers, Bees Creek Road. Council Meeting agendas and minutes can be found on the website along with all policies and recent happenings.
